Book Dash Jozi, 26 October 2019

Jozi creatives, are you ready?

Help us on our mission to make sure that every child owns a hundred books by the age of five.

On a single Book Dash day, volunteer creative teams work fast to make beautiful African children’s books that anyone can freely access, print and distribute. This is the Comrades of creativity and we’d love you to join us!

Our next event is sponsored and hosted by the wonderful people at the Goethe Insitut, Johannesburg and will take place on Saturday, the 26th October 2019.

The Goethe Institut has also generously made it possible for four writers, four illustrators and four designers from all over Africa to participate in this special event. As a result, there are fewer-than-usual spaces available, and we’re looking for the cream of Jozi’s crop!

To participate, you’ll need to be a creative professional, or a top notch amateur. There’ll be a little prepwork before the event, but most importantly, you need to be available from 9am to 9pm on Saturday the 14th April. You HAVE to be able to be physically present for the entire time on the day, this is not negotiable. You will also need to get yourself to and from the venue in Parkwood, Johannesburg on the day. We provide lots of good food and drinks to keep you going throughout the day! Our aim with Book Dash events is to attract great creatives from the surrounding area. However, applicants from further afar are welcome to apply as long as you are able to arrange your own transport and accommodation.

In the application form, tell us about yourself, and your experience writing, editing, designing, or illustrating. You will apply as an individual, but can request to work with a friend, if you are both successful in your applications and apply for different positions within the team.

If you’re not a writer, illustrator, designer or editor, but are still passionate about children’s literacy, why not apply to help out in a support role? We need photographers, videographers, tech support, art directors and social media storytellers to make Book Dash a success.

Applications close on Wednesday, 11th September 2018. No late applications will be accepted. This is a volunteer-based event, and no one gets paid for their participation on the day: it is our gift to the world!
