It includes a welcome letter from our new ED, Thembi Shangase, and covers a special milestone moment: the distribution of five million Book Dash books to children.
This year’s highlights included:
Reaching more children with more books: We distributed 1,002,544 books to ~200,000 children at 176 early childhood, literacy and healthcare distribution partners.
Collaborating with government: We entered into a partnership with the Department of Basic Education and UNICEF to develop “Stories for Joy”, a collection of 50 open-licensed storybooks that will enrich all early reading contexts once completed.
Expanding inclusion: Through a partnership with Stellenbosch University’s Handlab, the Book Dash catalogue is being translated into South African sign language, with videos available on our website.
This work changes lives, so thank you very much for the part you played in supporting us to continue our work in realising the vision that started it all: ‘Every child should own a hundred books by the age of five’.
