On Saturday 17 August 2024 we hosted our 23rd Book Dash event in the warm city of gold at University of Johannesburg: Library.
All our books are made in 12-hour sprints by creative professionals who volunteer their time and talent because they believe in our vision. Each team consists of a writer, an illustrator, a designer and an editor. On this Book Dash day eleven teams of talented creative volunteers work together to make authentic beautiful African children’s picture books.
This is also the year that Book Dash celebrates 10 years of making books freely available for anyone to access worldwide and distributing books through our network of over 200 partners ensuring books are given to children’s and caregivers to take home and own.
A huge thank you to all our supporters and funders for making this event possible and for your contributions over the last 10 years to our vision that ‘every child should own a hundred books by the age of five’. We have printed and distributed more than 4 million books, enabling families to read with their young children, and set them on the path to success.
Enjoy some highlights from the event captured in the photos and the video below (Black Gosling TV).
If you’re a professional creative and you’re interested in volunteering at a future Book Dash day, please fill out this form! We’ll notify you when applications are open for our next event.
